How to dispose of old tyres in Dubai: why they are a separate waste stream, the garage take-back route, and what to do with tyres already in your garage.

Key Takeaways
  • Tyres are a separated waste stream, not general or bulky household waste, and routing them correctly is most of the job.
  • The easiest disposal is the one you never take home: leave the old tyres with the fitter at the point of replacement.
  • Open burning of tyres is prohibited under UAE environmental law, and leaving them on open ground risks enforcement.
  • Stacked tyres in a villa garden collect rainwater and sand, which turns a storage problem into a pest problem.

How to dispose of old tyres in Dubai

To dispose of old tyres in Dubai, treat them as a separate stream from household waste. Leave replaced tyres with the fitting centre wherever possible, confirm acceptance with Dubai Municipality or a licensed collector for tyres already at home, and never burn them or leave them on open ground. Checked on 22/09/2026.

Tyres are one of the few everyday items where the disposal decision is made months before you think about it — at the moment a garage swaps them and asks whether you want the old set. Say yes, and a problem that belonged to a licensed workshop becomes four heavy objects in your garage with no obvious route out.

Everything below assumes ordinary passenger car, 4x4 or bike tyres from a household. Commercial fleet volumes, truck tyres and workshop quantities are a different arrangement and should be handled through a licensed commercial waste contract.

Decide at the garage, not at home
Ask the fitter before the job starts what happens to the old set. Taking them home for a spare you will never mount is how most household tyre piles begin.

Why tyres are handled separately from household waste

A tyre is not one material. It is vulcanised rubber bonded to steel belting and textile cord, engineered specifically not to break down. That is excellent in service and inconvenient afterwards: tyres do not compact, do not degrade in landfill and cannot be processed on the same line as mixed household waste.

They also behave badly in bulk. Stacked tyres trap air, which makes them awkward to load efficiently, and a tyre fire is notoriously difficult to extinguish and produces heavy smoke. Those two properties are why disposal routes for tyres are defined separately almost everywhere, including the UAE.

Recovery is genuinely possible once they reach the right facility. Shredding and granulation turn scrap rubber into crumb used in surfacing, matting and construction products, and the steel belting is recovered separately. None of that happens if the tyre goes into a general bin.

The route most people skip without realising

Tyre fitting centres replace tyres all day and already have a disposal arrangement for the ones they take off. Leaving your old set with them is the cleanest outcome available to a private motorist, and it costs you nothing but a sentence at the counter.

Ask explicitly rather than assuming. Some workshops itemise a disposal charge and some absorb it; either way, having the conversation before the wheels come off avoids the situation where the old tyres are already loaded into your boot before anyone mentions it.

Keep a spare only if you can actually use it. A matching tyre with legal tread, stored out of direct sun, is a reasonable thing to hold onto. Four worn tyres kept because they were free are not a spare — they are a future clearance job.

Tyres already sitting in your garage, garden or store

Start by counting them and checking what is inside. Tyres stored outdoors in a villa garden fill with rainwater, blown sand and leaf litter, and standing water in a tyre is a textbook mosquito breeding site. Empty and drain them before they are moved, because a water-filled tyre is far heavier than it looks and will soak whatever it is loaded next to.

Check whether they are still on rims. A tyre on a rim is a different item to a loose tyre: it is heavier, it takes up more space, and some routes price or accept the two differently. Say which you have when you ask anyone to take them.

Stack them flat rather than standing them on edge, keep them out of direct sun where the rubber degrades and marks the floor, and keep them clear of the electrical distribution board, water heater and anything else in a garage you would rather not have a rubber pile against.

What not to do with an old tyre

Do not burn them. Open incineration of tyres is not permitted under UAE environmental law, and it is one of the more visible things a resident can do wrong.

Do not leave them on open ground, in a desert lot, beside a communal bin or in a building's waste room. That is fly-tipping regardless of how few items are involved, and the illegal dumping guide covers how that is treated and what to do if material has already been placed outside.

Do not slide them into a mixed load without saying so. A crew that has quoted for household furniture may not have the route or the licence for tyres, and burying them under a sofa means they come back off the truck. Declaring them costs nothing; hiding them wastes everybody's morning.

Repurposing into planters or play equipment is popular and is genuinely better than disposal when it is done deliberately. Just make sure the tyre is drilled to drain rather than left to hold water, and that you are not simply relocating the pile to the garden.

Municipal and licensed collection routes

Dubai Municipality runs household waste services and recycling drop-off points, but acceptance varies by material and by site, and tyres are not an ordinary household stream. Confirm the current position for your address and item before you load a car: the Dubai Municipality services directory and 800900 are the right starting points, and the recycling centre directory covers what neighbourhood drop-offs generally handle.

A licensed private collector is the practical answer for a stack of tyres that has accumulated, particularly alongside other garage material. What matters is that the provider names the destination rather than just quoting a price to make them disappear — the same test set out in the where to legally dump junk guide.

Be specific in the request. Quantity, whether they are on rims, car or 4x4 size, and where they are stored are the four details that let a collector confirm in advance whether they can take them at all. The broader question of which items a collection crew can and cannot accept is covered in the items accepted guide.

Access and timing for a villa or community collection

Garage clear-outs in villa communities are usually the easy case: the vehicle reaches the driveway and the carry is short. Confirm where the truck may stop and whether community security needs vehicle details in advance. Residents in Arabian Ranches and similar developments should expect that gate registration, not the loading, is the part that takes time.

Around workshop and automotive clusters such as Dubai Motor City, the sensible move is to deal with tyres at the point of service instead of transporting them home first. If they are already at home, group them with the rest of the garage clear-out rather than arranging a trip for four tyres alone.

Do not stage tyres in a shared corridor, stairwell or parking bay while you wait for a collection. In apartment buildings in particular, anything left in common areas becomes the building's problem and, quickly, yours.

Booking a collection that includes tyres

Send a photograph of the stack, state the count, say whether any are on rims, and mention anything else in the garage going at the same time — oil containers, batteries and paint all need declaring separately, and the paint and hazardous liquids guide covers those.

For a handful of tyres alongside general garage material, our bulky item collection is the usual fit; where the garage is part of a wider household clear-out, the general junk removal service covers the mixed load in one visit.

Send us the photo and the count and you will get a fixed price with the tyres named in the scope, rather than a quote that quietly excludes them.
